A frightened child's mind
creating dreadful monsters

Heavenly and earthly
Rise gloriously

I have done much in my day.
I traveled the infinite emptiness
In search of a friendly face
And I did find many.
I made myself known as best I could,
Curing diseases
Or winning wars.
I have killed,
And I have been wounded,
I have broken hearts,
And I have been broken myself.
The lovers I have known
Are so great in number
That I have since forgotten many of their names,
Just as I have forgotten many of their languages.
I slept under their covers
I fathered their children
And I left before they could uncover my true being.
Murder was once a pastime,
I slaughtered men and beasts
Women and pets
Boys and girls.
There was a time when I ignored morality
For the sake of pleasure
And believe me, for a very long time it was profitable.
But killing in war after war
Raping and pillaging and looting
And drinking far more than any man ever should
Do take their toll
And lose
